Geron Shugart invented the concept of Ultra-Humanite, a substance that made metahumans different from humans. Later, this idea was refined into one of Ultra-Humanite Particle Flux. Because of his research into metahuman powers, he became known first as Mr. Ultra-Humanite. Later, after he invented the Power Dial and used it to become metahuman himself, switching genders in the process, she became known as Ultra-Woman.
